Meet our experienced team:

Nick Devlin
BEng (Hons 1) Building Services Engineering, Post Grad Cert Environmental Management, MIEAust, CPEng, NPER, MAIRAH, Affil. CIBSE

Nick founded Devlin Engineering & Management (DEM) in 2013. Previously he was Mechanical Team Leader at AECOM Perth, having relocated from Sydney to join the AECOM team as Senior Engineer in 2005. Overall Nick has 20 years’ experience in mechanical services engineering, in both contracting and consulting, in the UK and Australia.

Nick loves problem-solving and enjoys building high-performing teams. He has a proven ability to understand a client’s business, frame the requirements of a project and handpick professionals and field experts to deliver an optimal outcome. He believes in high-quality and timely delivery, and lives by the mantra: Always do what you say you will.

Nick also believes that for best results, projects should involve a group of professionals who enjoy working together, combined with a process that is engaging and enjoyable.

Having worked in the UK, Sydney and Perth, Nick brings a well-rounded perspective to each project. He utilises a unique blend of innovative design skills, construction and technical knowledge, and project management on each project. Further, Nick possesses a qualification in environmental science, which gives him valuable expertise when designing systems in an environmentally sensitive context.

Nick has a thorough understanding of design, construction, commissioning and optimisation. This knowledge is accompanied by a friendly and practical approach to problem-solving and a strong commercial understanding.

Nick thrives in a wider team environment and his extensive experience in all phases of a project’s delivery life-cycle gives him unique insight and an ability to foresee construction and commissioning issues, and devise alternative approaches and methods to ease the building process and enhance the end-product.

 Gary Littlewood
BEng (Hons 1) Building Services Engineering, B.Tec HNC (part) Mechanical Systems and Instrumentation, B.Tec ONC Building Services, City and Guilds 236 (1, 2 and C) Electrical Technician

Gary has 25 years’ experience in building services engineering in contracting and consulting, in both the UK and in Australia. Gary has worked for clients, builders, contractors and consultants.

Gary’s focus is on project delivery and getting it right first time. The nature of the building industry is for issues to become confused, and often the greatest help that consultants can offer is to simplify methodologies and roles to find the best solution. Gary understands that each individual is working towards the common goal of successful project completion, and if he, as a consultant, can align each stakeholder, and identify and mitigate gaps in the project delivery processes, great outcomes can be achieved.

Gary believes that value engineering is not simply about driving the cost of construction down. Reducing the cost of an individual trade’s scope can lead to increases elsewhere and a poor outcome for the building owner. True value engineering comes from a holistic approach that focusses on long-term value.

Gary’s experience in construction management helps him to foresee potential issues for the construction and commissioning phase of a project, while still in the early design stages. Recognising issues before they become critical is fundamental to timely delivery, quality outcomes and high-performing buildings.

As well as new-build projects, Gary is frequently involved in investigation and engineering solutions to legacy issues. It is his firm belief that most of the issues he has encountered could have been avoided with sufficient consideration, review and planning.

Gary is an advocate for sustainable design. He believes that sound engineering fundamentals and the matching of the designed product to the exacting needs of the client are key planks in achieving a sustainable outcome. Gary seeks to develop simple and understandable solutions to sophisticated problems and believes this is often at the core of a sustainable, robust, and commercial design.

 Peta Blight
BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, MIET, MIEAust, MAIRAH

Peta joined Devlin Engineering & Management (DEM) in 2015. She has over 6 years’ experience in mechanical services and project engineering, in both consulting and contracting roles across Western Australia.

Peta has an appreciation for all project facets, and has worked in both building services and power generation environments, from design conception through the project delivery process to operation.

Peta’s goal is to work closely with team members and stakeholders to achieve the best outcome for each project, as she knows developing an optimised and integrated solution is the key to success.

Recent project experience includes the design of new residential, industrial and commercial building projects. Peta has also had the opportunity to work on upgrades and modification works for a number of university, commercial and government projects.

Previously Peta spent almost 3 years as the project engineer for non-generating infrastructure on a BHP Billiton Project built in Newman, WA. This role encompassed three Contracts with a combined value of US65M+. During this time she was involved with the design, construction, commissioning, operation and handover of the administration building and warehouse, water treatment facility and the diesel loading, unloading and storage facility.

Peta is very active in the engineering community, being a member of the National Women of AIRAH (WoA) committee and a key driver in the local WoA WA working group. She is a representative on the IET Young Professionals Community Committee and is the current vice-chair of the IET Australia Forum, which also affords her opportunity to travel locally and internationally. Peta is regularly engaged to speak to university and high school students about engineering.
